Platinum Perfect
Platinum is a rare metal with unique characteristics that make it an irresistible jewelry choice. Due to platinum's pure nature, it is naturally hypoallergenic, which makes it the perfect option for those with sensitive skin. Best of all, its brilliant shine makes diamonds pop. This makes platinum the ultimate preference for engagement and wedding rings. Purer than both gold and silver, it never fades, and never tarnishes. Your platinum jewelry will undoubtedly become a most envied heirloom.
Does Your Jewelry Tarnish?
Gold and platinum are among the word's most tarnish-resistant metals. Then why is it that sometimes the gold jewelry leaves a black smudge on the skin? What is going on? Actually, it is not the gold that leaves that black smudge. It is the skin's oil and cosmetics reacting with the gold alloys. What is the solution? Simple: clean your jewelry often and switch the brand of your lotion and cosmetics. Silver does tarnish because it reacts to particles in the air (sulphur, in particular). This tarnish is a micro-thin coating and not deterioration of silver, and can be easily wiped away. Higher end silver jewelry is coated with a tarnish-resistant thin layer of rhodium which prevents silver from tarnishing.
Platinum in Your Future?
I do hope so. Platinum is strong, does not tarnish (however, develops a distinct patina), and doesn't turn yellow as white gold does. In fact, when used in jewelry, platinum is 95% pure (unlike 18K gold, which is 75% pure), and that is why platinum does not fade or change color. Platinum is certainly a star among the precious metals used in jewelry today. Since it was first used to create practical objects for the court of Louis XVI in the 1780s, the most remarkable jewelry were later made using platinum by Cartier, Tiffany, Faberge', and many other jewelers. Platinum is here to stay and so is your jewelry made out of one of the most rare and durable metals.
New Sparkle for Diamond Studs
Diamond studs never go out of style. But, if you would like to add a very special sparkle to your diamond stud earrings, you can have a circular "jacket" made to surround each diamond with a circle of either pavé or smaller prong-set diamonds. Thiswill allow you toadd even moreimpact to your beautiful stones on special occasions. Another way to customize your diamond studs is to put them into a bezel setting that also has a circle of diamonds or other gemstones like sapphires or rubies.
The Test of Time
My favorite dress is aclassic black cocktail dress for special occasions. My everyday favorite outfit is atimeless cashmere twin set. I love both because this type ofclothing is versatile and easy to dress up or down, depending on the occasion. For the ultimate in versatility, however, we look to jewelry to give our clothes a completely different look. Just put on a diamond necklace, and your basic cashmere twin set sparkles too, and you are ready for a night out. Add polish to a denim outfit by wearing a distinctive gold necklace and a pair of gold earrings. A pearl necklace adds elegance to a silk or cashmere dress, and even a business suit. Classic jewelry, justlike a little black dress, will withstand the test of time.
Buyer Beware!
I’ve been thinking—what makes people believe that spending $399 on a three-carat diamond tennis bracelet is a good deal? Why do consumers carefully study reports to understand the quality of a vacuum cleaner, yet fail to take the time to learn about diamonds before making such an important purchase?
Last Christmas, a young man stopped by my store and asked me to clean a new bracelet he had purchased for his wife from a department store. He mentioned that the price was so attractive he couldn’t resist buying it.
Of course, I cleaned the bracelet—but it still didn’t sparkle. He asked me to leave it in the ultrasonic cleaner for a few more minutes. I did, yet the bracelet looked no better.
I explained to him that diamond quality is what truly determines brilliance and sparkle.
So, is spending $399 on a three-carat diamond tennis bracelet really a good deal?

Hoop Earrings - Here to Stay
Speaking about classics - hoop earringsmake a truly glamorous classicfashion statement. And celebrities are not shy about spotlighting their hoops with every step they make along the red carpet. At the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards last night in Los Angeles, actresses including Angelina Jolie, Christina Applegate and Jane Krakowski all wore hoops ranging from dramatic 22-Karat yellow gold hoops with ruby accentsandheavy diamond drop-style hoops tomore modest diamond studded styles. No matter where the fashion world takes us, hoops are here to stay. Whether simple gold hoops or inside-out hoops with diamonds all the way around, hoop earrings are versatile enough to be worn with any almost any outfit for any occasion. My personal favorites are white gold, sparkling diamond hoops from Roberto Coin.
