10 Reasons We Love Fine Jewelry

As Marilyn Monroe sang, diamonds (and really all fine jewelry) are a girl’s best friend. There’s no better feeling than getting a beautiful new diamond bracelet, or trying on a pair of birthstone earrings. Here are a few specific reasons why we love fine jewelry.

1. There’s something for every occasion.

Whether you need something as simple as a gift for your niece’s birthday, or as elaborate as a necklace for your wedding day, there’s a piece of jewelry for you. Fine jewelry comes in a wide variety of styles, colors, and choices; because of this, there’s something that’s appropriate for every occasion, need, and price point.

2. It completes any outfit.Strand of white pearl necklace

I dare you to find a piece of clothing that doesn’t go well with a pair of simple diamond studs. A piece of fine jewelry adds the finishing touch to any look, making it complete. Not only are there certain universal pieces that go with almost anything (like simple diamond earrings or a strand of pearls), there is also jewelry to complement even the most complex of outfits. No matter what you’re wearing, jewelry is the cherry on top to your look.

3. It can reflect the wearer.

Perhaps the best part about fine jewelry is that it shows off the style of its wearer. This is true for every piece a person wears: whether you’re donning a custom designed engagement ring or an Alex and Ani bangle, the jewelry you choose to buy and wear reflects you.

4. It can be as formal as you want it to be.

Most pieces of fine jewelry can be dressed up or down however you want them to be. Pearl studs, for example, can be worn casually in day-to-day events, formally during one’s wedding, as part of your everyday business look, and everything in between. Fine jewelry is versatile in its wear.

5. It’s customizable.

Whether you’re creating a completely new custom piece, renovating antique family jewelry, or merely getting your jewDouble heart diamond pendantelry engraved, one of the most wonderful things about fine jewelry is its ability to be personally yours. Customizing a piece of fine jewelry  makes it as unique as the person who wears it—and what could be better than that?

6. If it breaks, you can fix it.

You know that old “you break it, you buy it” rule? This certainly doesn’t apply to fine jewelry. When a fine bracelet, necklace, or pair of earrings breaks, you don’t have to buy a completely new piece. Instead, you can bring it into a jewelry repair shop to get it as good as new.

7. Each piece has a personal meaning and story.

While this is especially true for custom designed pieces, every piece of fine jewelry has its own unique story of how and why it was purchased. Fine jewelry isn’t just jewelry, it’s a memory.

8. It’s universal

In every culture, people wear jewelry. You don’t need to speak a certain language or know any particular customs to appreciate fine jewelry, no matter where it is from. You can even say that fine jewelry is the glue that binds the world together—it is an untouchable universal aspect of life.

9. It commemorates the special moments in life.

Engagement rings, wedding bands, anniversary bands. What do these three items have in common? They all are celebrations of life’s most wonderful moments. Fine jewelry celebrates birthdays, engagements, unions, and more. A piece of jewelry is a memorial Close up on diamond engagement ringto the beautiful reason behind its purchase (whatever this reason may be).

10. It becomes a part of you.

The jewelry you wear can become a part of your signature look. More than that, it can become a part of you. Jewelry that you wear regularly is there for every moment of your life, and you can start to even feel incomplete without it. With each wear, a piece of jewelry becomes less of an accessory and more of a part of the wearer.

Daniel & Jennifer’s Romantic Engagement

Daniel and Jenn hugging in front of a waterfall
Daniel & Jenn’s romantic adventure ends with a proposal and a ring from Roman Jewelers

Roman Jewelers has been a part of so many engagements and moments and every single one takes on a new importance and meaning. We were honored to have worked with Daniel and Jennifer and have known their family for many years . We take tremendous pleasure in wishing them the best of love and luck and we thank them for the privilege of being their jeweler and sharing their romance. Here is their engagement story….

How we got engaged
July 1st was the sixth anniversary of Dan and Jenn’s first date. The day began with Dan taking Jenn up to Lehigh’s Iaccoca Hall Tower, which sits upon the top of South Mountain in Bethlehem. There he surprised Jenn with three long stem roses that he had hidden there the day before. He told her that the pink, red and white roses represented their past, present and future. (This was also a place Dan took Jenn on their first date.)

The celebration continued with a hike at Glen Onoko Falls park in Jim Thorpe, PA. After hiking for 20 minutes, Dan and Jenn had a romantic picnic on a boulder next to a small waterfall. Following a relaxing lunch they continued following the cascading falls up a steep and treacherous trail, which they had to work together to ascend, until arriving at the summit and most spectacular waterfall of the park.

Standing on a ledge at the foot of the falls, Dan presented a stuffed Gentoo penguin with a obsidian pebble in his mouth (a tradition that this type of penguin has for picking its life long mate – Click here to learn more). Dan then held Jenn’s hands, expressed his vision of a life together in love and family, and then got down on one knee and presented the ring as he asked her to be his wife.

With tears of joy in both their eyes, Jenn accepted the proposal, Dan put the ring on her finger, they embraced with a big kiss and then Jenn hopped and danced around like a rabbit! At the base of the falls, Jenn and Dan celebrated with a bottle of Asti champagne.

After calling family and friends, Dan and Jenn went to dinner at the place they went on their first date. Then Dan took Jenn onto Lehigh’s campus to the place where he had his first conversation with her; presenting her with a love letter that he had hidden on the campus. She gave him an anniversary card she had chosen the day before. With glowing smiles on their faces and love in their hearts, the celebration continued that night at a “speakeasy” with live Jazz music.

Tangerine Tango Orange Color is the Color Choice for 2012; accessorize it with jewelry

John Hardy Dome Ring
From John Hardy, the dome ring is a bold choice to match a bold color look

You will see it very soon; the Tangerine Tango, an electric orange color, wherever ladies clothes and accessories are sold. That color was selected as the color of 2012 by the Pantone Color Institute. The color is certainly vivacious, bright, and energizing.

The color is simply stunning, but how to accessorize it properly? Here are some ideas and suggestions from Roman Jewelers.
One way is to simply match the color. Precious Topaz, also known as Imperial Topaz, with it reddish-orange undertones, is a perfect match to an orange dress.

Here is another stone that will bring even more fire to your outfit: a fire opal. Australian fire opals include combinations of vibrant colors such as oranges, reds, blues, greens, and purples. The rarest, however, and thus the most highly regarded, is the intense red-orange fire opal from Mexico. These gems would make your new outfit even more spectacular.

And don’t forget the amber. Amber varies in color from pale yellow to very dark brown. You could choose an amber beaded necklace or a pendant or, perhaps, a pair of chandelier earrings.

Not in a mood for any stones? That is fine too. If you want to bring the brightness of the electric orange color down, try a heavy silver necklace and a bangle. If yellow gold is your metal choice in jewelry, you are lucky; the warm color of yellow gold is a perfect complement to your new orange dress.

Here is another idea. Instead of trying to warm-up the orange color, try to cool it down with a color that is complimentary to orange: blue. Go to your jewelry box and look for jewelry with blue topaz, aquamarine, sapphire, tanzanite, or turquoise. And don’t forget to match your now accessorized outfit with a pair of blue shoes and, possibly, a clutch bag.

If you do, get an airplane ticket to Geneva, Switzerland and attend the Sotheby’s auction on May 17. The emerald and diamond tiara will be offered at an auction there.

The tiara was created with 11 pear-shaped rare Colombian emeralds that collectively weigh over 500 carats.
